If you live on the NSW Central Coast and surf there’s a good chance you know Sal Oman — eternal frother and founder of Sal’s Surf School. Sal is single-handedly responsible for bringing the joy of surfing to hundreds of women and children at her home break of Umina (coincidentally, where this designer can be found on a regular basis). So when she approached D&O to refresh her branding it was an exercise in leveraging the brand recognition she already had (which was already heading towards icon status in its own right), but making it work much harder for her as her business expanded. The result pays homage to the original but brings a boldness and exuberance that reflects its owner. As the saying goes, “if you surf and don’t know Sal … do you really surf?”
